MEMORIES

What good are memories?  As I wrote on my home page, I have some mixed thoughts about this.

On the one hand, there is spiritual guidance that tells us not to look back.  Bible readers will remember that Lot's wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt.  My primary spiritual text, Light on the Path, says "Live neither in the present nor the future, but in the eternal."  I think the implication is that all disciples should know better than to live in the past.

On the other hand, experiments have shown that being put into a situation simulating the past will make a person recover some of the physical health of the past.  Perhaps the danger is that one will try to stay in the past and fail to go on.

My present feeling is that I have a lot of precious memories that should be shared now, because when I "check out," they can no longer be shared with those left behind.  Are those memories worth anything to others?  I hope you enjoy them!
